Lighting up Kiyoima Primary School

Friday, December 11th, 2009

The Ssubi Foundation donated solar lights to Kiyoima Primary School in Western Uganda to light up a classroom, dormitories and teacher quarters.

Kiyoima Primary School is located outside of Kibale National Park in beautiful Western Uganda. There is no electricity in this area, so the solar lights provide an opportunity for children and teachers to read at night and to extend school hours. Kiyoima and The Ssubi Foundation thank the individuals who helped us raise the funds to purchase the solar lights. The solar lights were purchased from Light up the World Foundation based in Calgary, Alberta.  Here are some pictures of the children outside their school and the solar lights being installed on some of the buildings.

Update from Uganda

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Things are going well in Uganda, Dusman just sent some pictures of the landscaping improvements and trench developed at Lilly Kindergarten and Primary School in Kampala to prevent water erosion damage of the lower classroom block. They have a new headmaster at the school, who is shaking thinks up in a positive way. We look forward to working with Lilly in 2010 with a goal of donating a full set of primary education text books, teaching guides and readers.
